Out With The Old (TV), In With The New (TV)

Can you hear that? It’s the world taking a collective exhale after the wild and crazy two weeks we call “The Holidays.” Having come and gone so quickly, some of us are just now crawling out from under all that gift wrap and ribbon, allowing for sweet dreams of next year’s menu of cranberry sauce and green bean casserole.

As the new gadgets and gizmos are being enjoyed, some find themselves wondering what to do with their old electronics, especially their televisions. Fortunately, we have an answer for you: Recycle it with Tech Dump! Yes, the solution is really that simple. With Tech Dump’s recycle/reuse program, we’re happy to take those old TV’s off your hands.

The first step is identifying what kind of TV you have. Is it a tube-style CRT or flat screen? If you’re not sure, don’t worry, we have a blog post that helps you identify if your TV is a CRT. Did you know that there are some nasty toxins in CRTs? Because of this, CRT TV’s require special handling, therefore resulting in a recycling fee.

Fortunately, we have a sweet deal taking place this weekend, January 28th from 9am-1pm where you can recycle one CRT TV for FREE with the donation of a WORKING smartphone. Accepted smartphones include iPhone 5 or newer & Samsung Galaxy 3 or newer – all phones will be tested to turn on at the time of donation. We’ve deemed the day, Salvage Saturday and we hope to see you there!

For those of you who recycled your CRT TV long ago and are looking to now recycle a flat screen, you’re welcome to bring those by as well. Any unbroken LCD/LED & plasma TV’s will be accepted free of charge, but any broken ones will have a $15 environmental charge.

Of course, Salvage Saturday isn’t the only day to recycle those old televisions, stop by one of our locations in Golden Valley, Bloomington or St. Paul Monday-Friday and we’ll be happy to take them off your hands (regular TV recycling fees will apply).
